a.k.a. lateral femoral cutaneous mononeuropathy

 

QUICK HITS:

this nerve is purely sensory

 

nerve injury, causing numbness, pain, dysesthesia (sensitive to touch) over skin of upper lateral thigh

 

possible causes:

  • entrapment/kinking as it passes through or over the inguinal ligament
  • external pressure (e.g. tight pants, +/- obesity, pregnancy)

 

associated with HIV, diabetes

 

usually resolves on own, may recur
